Annual to perennial herb, up to 70 cm tall. Stem glandular pubescent, erect, much branched, Leaves alternate; sessile or petiolate, petiole up to 5 mm long; leaf blade 1.2-3.3 cm x 2-13 mm, oblong, densely pubescent, hairs long, multicellular, base decurrent, margin denticulate, apex acute to subobtuse; leaves become gradually smaller towards apex from base. Capitula 8 mm x 8 mm, disciform, heterogamous, arranged in leafy racemes, on short, axillary branches; peduncle ca. 2.5 mm long, tomentose. Involucre +/- hemispheric; phyllaries multiseriate (4-5 seriate): outermost and middle lanceolate, ca. 5 mm x 1 mm, green, glandular pubescent on outside; innermost ca. 6.5 mm x 0.5 mm, scarious, glabrous except apex. Receptacle naked, epaleate. Marginal florets: Many seriate, female, fertile, ca. 6 mm long, nearly equal to innermost phyllaries. Corolla ca. 4.5 mm long, light purple/ white, filiform; tube narrow; limb narrow, 2-3-lobed, lobes minute. Ovary 0.5 mm long; style ca. 6 mm long; style branched. Inner disc florets: Few, bisexual, ca. 7 mm long. Corolla ca. 5 mm long, tubular, pink or mauve; tube dilated at apex, limb 5- lobed, lobes ca. 0.75 mm long. Anthers dark purple, with sagittate bases, ecaudate. Style branches with obtuse sweeping hairs reaching below style bifurcation. Cypselae dark brown, ca. 0.7-1 mm long, oblong- ellipsoid, sparsely hairy with straight hairs. Pappus of free, barbellate capillary bristles, 10-12 in number, white, in one series.
